Use a phillips screwdriver to remove the screws that run from one backing plate to its opposite through the bore hole. Grab a ruler or tape measurer and find the distance from the center of the hole where the knob was and the edge of the door frame. When the doorknob is unscrewed you can easily remove both the interior and exterior locks. After unscrewing the screws removing the doorknob should be easy.

Once triggered the lever or lock trim can be removed from the door. Look for a thin slot or a recessed hex head setscrew on the lock side of the doorknob. Remove the door knobs. Now it is time to remove the internal screws and take off the remaining pieces.

Push the tip of a narrow screwdriver into the hole. Apply a bit of pressure to the paper clip to trigger a release button inside the hardware. If any screws are exposed during this process remove them to release the lock and remove it from the door. Tug on the knob and it will slide right off.
